This is going to be a weekly article on this site going forward. Pretty much just follow our Instagram or twitter and we’ll send out a post for you guys to ask questions based on whatever is going on in sports or anything you want to ask about then it will be answered by yours truly. So let’s get straight into your questions.
Who’s the real DBU?
In the lead up to the LSU/Texas game from this past Saturday, Texas players claimed that they were the real DBU instead of LSU. Well to be quite honest neither team looked like they had the best defensive backs in the country as both QB’s combined for 872 yards, 8 touchdowns with Texas getting the lone interception of the game. I would still give the edge to LSU here, as proven NFL players like Morris Claiborne, Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu, Eric Reid and Jamal Adams all hail from LSU. Not to mention the current roster which is loaded with high quality DB’s having Grant Delpit and Derek Stingley Jr. leading the pack. Delpit and Stingley both stood out with great plays this past Saturday despite the second half onslaught and proved that LSU can still produce NFL caliber players in the secondary.
Why the Jets gotta do us like that?
What’s good with the Jets man?
On to the NFL questions, Jet fans were obviously stunned last Sunday as the Jets blew a 16-0 lead in the 3rd quarter to lose 17-16 to the Bills. Kaare Vedvik missed a crucial extra point and a field goal in the game which may have been the difference. However, I think a lot of the reason for this collapse in week 1 has to do with the offense. The offensive line did not give Sam much time to work and when Sam did have time he missed on some big throws that could have sealed the deal. Le’Veon was the only player who posed a threat to the Bills defense and if the Jets want to do something with the season more players on the offensive side need to step up.
Are the Cowboys for real?
It looked too easy for the Cowboys this past Sunday against the Giants. They raked up the highest offensive DVOA (59.0%) in week 1 with Dak Prescott going for 405 yards and 4 touchdowns. I think they are definitely a real contender in the NFC. The Cowboys have drafted and developed a young, talented core that has elite caliber players at multiple positions. Dak got off to a great start and if he can string together more performances like that I can see the Cowboys eventually becoming the favorites in the NFC.
Are the Vikings a legit threat this year?
Another NFC contender in my opinion. Their defense suffocated a talented Atlanta offense this past week and Dalvin Cook showed what he can be as a healthy every down back. I think they are a playoff team but not quite on the level of the Rams, Saints, and Cowboys. This game against the Packers on the road is a nice test for them to see if they can prove their worth against a rival.
How are the Jags gonna be moving forward without Foles?
Nick Files didn’t get to finish a quarter in the 2019 season before he suffered a brutal injury. This definitely hurts the Jaguars going forward as Foles was looked at to stabilize the offense. In comes Gardner Minshew who actually was very good, completing 22 of 25 passes. Minshew was college football’s top senior QB in 2018, and he has continuously improved each year. He can be a solid placeholder, but this won’t matter unless the Jags can clean up their defense which was all over the place on Sunday.
Patriots could go 16-0?
Looking at their immediate schedule they look poised for an undefeated run into October. They don’t play a playoff team from 2018 until Week 9 when they visit Baltimore to play the Ravens. With games against the Chiefs, Eagles, and Cowboys on the schedule later in the season, I think 16-0 is unlikely even with their ridiculous talent. Getting AB was a surreal pickup for a team that had depth all over the field. If the AB distractions stay in Oakland, the Patriots may end up with another Super Bowl in lieu of a 16-0 season.
