Wednesday Mailbag #2

I think it is appropriate we start this mailbag off with the most important question of the past week.

Who is the greatest QB of all time, and why is it Gardner Minshew II?

Yes.

*I may or may not have asked that question to myself*

Seriously it is impressive what Minshew has shown over the past two weeks. 3 TD’s to 1 INT while completing 77.6% of his passes while displaying good mobility and poise. It has not translated to a win, but he did lead the Jags on a potential game tying/winning drive late in the 4th. Doug Marrone made a good call to go for the win but maybe taking the ball out of your red hot QB’s hands wasn’t the best way to go.

Thoughts on Jalen Ramsey yelling at Marrone?

So initially, I did not think it was a big deal even though it did get pretty heated between the two. It’s football that stuff is bound to happen this just happened in front of a national audience. This thought was wrong however as Ramsey soon requested a trade from the Jags. I think the Jags would be crazy to trade Ramsey, the guy just held one of the best receivers in the league, DeAndre Hopkins to 5 catches and 40 yards. Elite man to man cover guys like that are hard to find and the Jags should look to salvage that relationship before they cut loose on a core player entering the prime of his career.

Are the 49ers a real contender this year?

It is tough to say after 2 weeks, but the Niners have definitely overachieved to start this season. They rank 3rd in total DVOA, and have played stingy defense creating turnovers, and efficient offense that can make plays with a bunch of different guys including Matt Breida, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Raheem Mostert. The opponents are not necessarily the cream of the crop, but that is 2 road wins to start off the season. Now they go home to play an 0-2 Steelers team with no Big Ben with a chance at a 3-0 start. Definitely don’t sleep on the Niners this year.

Which of the other NFC South teams will step up with Brees out?

Falcons have to step up during this 6 week stretch with no Brees on the field for the Saints. They are loaded with talent on the offensive side, and the defensive line looked dominant this past Sunday against a talented Eagles offensive line. If their defense can give them more consistent performances this team will be back to being a legit contender. Panthers are going to have a tough time if Cam cannot stay healthy and I do like what the Bucs are doing with their defense. However, the Falcons are the most talented team left in this division if the Saints are without Brees for an extended period of time.

Georgia or Notre Dame this Saturday?

Many people myself included thought that despite Notre Dame being undefeated last year in the regular season, Georgia was the better team. I think Georgia’s running attack has been outstanding with D’Andre Swift leading the pack with 292 yards and 9.4 yards per carry in 3 games. Brian Herrien has also been steady leading the team in rushing TD’s while Zamir White has also averaged 7.4 yards per carry in his 19 rushes this season. While on the other side Notre Dame’s leading rusher is their QB Ian Book. I think Book is a really good QB, but I don’t see enough firepower on his offense to help him take down this stacked Georgia team on the road. I’ll take Georgia 31-20.
